The best bars in Rio de Janeiro in 2025
Eleninha has been named the best bar in the city by the 2025 Rio Show Gastronomy Awards. Learn more about this and curso trade esportivo betfairall the other award-winning and nominated restaurants in this category. 1st place: ELENINHA A kind of extension of the neighboring Elena, a trendy Asian restaurant-bar in Horto, Eleninha has carved out its own audience with a more relaxed vibe than its older sibling. The sidewalk is lively, with highly sought-after tables accompanied by live jazz on Tuesdays and the YaYa party by DJ Marcelinho da Lua on Wednesdays. On Sunday afternoons, samba, choro, and forró groups take turns playing. All in perfect harmony. Inside the charming historic house, the atmosphere is more intimate: stone walls, green velvet sofas, low evening lighting, and a wooden shelf decorated with wine bottles, books, vinyl records, and curated pieces. Large glass windows reveal the greenery of Jardim Botanico. The perfect setting to savor, unhurried, the signature cocktails by Alex Mesquita, a master mixologist. Highlights from the bar include creations like the Eleninha Roitman (R$ 42), a balanced mix of brandy, pineapple juice, Aperol, lemon, honey, and aromatic bitters; and the refreshing Meu Nome N?o é Rubus (R$ 45), a blend of rum, vermouth rosso, raspberry purée, and lemon. For snacks, start with the addictive roasted and caramelized peanuts (R$ 16), slightly spicy, and move on to the chef Itamar Araújo’s Asian bites, perfect for sharing: light pork gyoza or shrimp dumplings with chili crunch (R$ 44 each, four pieces); fish crudo with citrus sauce and crispy rice (R$ 48); and the wagyu miniburger with cheese cream (R$ 52, for two). Once a month, Eleninha also rides the wave of coffee parties — brunches animated by DJs that enhance the house’s laid-back vibe even further. Jardim Botanico: Rua Pacheco Le?o 780. Tue to Thu, from 12 p.m. to midnight. Fri, from 12 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sat, from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sun, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Eleninha: voted best bar of 2025 — Foto: Rodrigo Azevedo 2nd place: LIB? With just over six months in Botafogo, Lib? is a standout among the city's new wave of fine wine bars. Located in a historic mansion on Rua Conde de Irajá, the space is helmed by Chef Roberta Ciasca and showcases a wine list curated by sommelier Maíra Freire, an expert in organic, biodynamic, and natural wines. Among the highlights are the Argentine chardonnay Rocamadre Blanco – Juan Suárez 2024 (R$53 per glass or R$264 per bottle), and wines from the distant Imereti region of Georgia, such as the orange wine made from the tsitska grape (R$298 per bottle). A great way to begin is with Circuito Lib? (R$158), featuring five 75ml tasting glasses that explore various styles and origins. To accompany the wine, the chef offers a "tavern kitchen" with small plates for sharing. Popular dishes include eggplant gratin, goat cheese boursin, and tomato confit (R$39); cheese balls with caramelized onion aioli (R$42); and milanesa with roasted tomatoes, arugula, aioli, and parmesan (R$78). Other new offerings are beet, goat cheese, and herb butter ravioli (R$69) and duck rice with cured salami pangrattato (R$79). The intimate setting is divided into two floors: upstairs, the main room features wooden tables, chalkboard menus, blue velvet curtains, and art deco-inspired sconces. The basement houses a wine cellar and event space for tastings and private gatherings. Botafogo: Rua Conde de Irajá, 90 (96729-8171). Open Tues-Thurs, 6:30 PM to 11 PM. Fri, 6:30 PM to midnight. Sat, noon to midnight. Sun, 5 PM to 10 PM. Nosso: Champion in 2024, gastrobar in Ipanema returns to the podium — Foto: Publicity photo 3rd place: NOSSO In the heart of Ipanema, this gastrobar impresses with its balance of high-quality cocktails and creative cuisine. At the first-floor bar, award-winning mixologist Daniel Estevan surprises with unique drinks that defy convention: such as the tacacá sour (R$43), mixing gin infused with jambu, tucupi, cupua?u, and lime; or the high ball do caparaó (R$45), made with coconut oil vodka and Caparaó coffee soda, resulting in bold and characterful combinations. At the table, Chef Bruno Katz adds a touch of Brazilian flair without the obvious. Highlights include Korean-style ossobuco lasagna (R$88), with slow-cooked meat, grana padano, demi-glace sauce, nirá oil, chili oil, and crispy breadcrumbs; and duroc pork gyozas (R$58) filled with oriental-spiced pork shoulder, finished with demi-glace, chili oil, Japanese vinegar, and furikake. Complete the experience by heading up to the terrace: a cozy space with candlelit tables, a retractable roof, and a view of the tree-lined Pra?a Nossa Senhora da Paz. Ipanema: Rua Maria Quitéria 91. Open Tues-Sat, 6:30 PM to 12:30 AM. Sun, 6:30 PM to 11 PM. Closed on the last Sunday of the month. However, it's not just any food: Chef Monique Gabiatti innovates with dishes like steak tartare toast (R$71), a hit since its opening, and the beloved ossobuco tartlet (R$61) — slow-cooked in wine with Paris mushrooms and caramelized onions, topped with pie crust and gremolata. To drink, wine is undoubtedly the star, available in various styles and formats: whites, reds, rosés, oranges, fortified, and sparkling. There are over 30 options by the glass each month, starting at R$22 for 150ml — one of Belisco's unique features is its generous offering of wines by the glass, a still uncommon practice in the city. Every month, sommelier Gabriela Teixeira selects three labels from the same winery for the tasting flight (between R$70 and R$90, depending on the producer). Every day, from 6 PM to 8 PM, selected glasses are 20% off. Botafogo: Rua Arnaldo Quintela 93 (99309-6196). Open Mon-Sat, 6 PM to midnight. BLUE BLAZER Master of reinventing the high cocktail experience, Lelo Forti (formerly of Mixxing) recently brought his Blue Blazer from Barra to Botafogo — operating as a mixology school by day and a sophisticated speakeasy by night. The décor is meticulously designed to evoke the charm of old French bars: dim lighting, leather sofas, books scattered throughout the library, and an impressive wooden counter where you can watch the drinks being made. The menu, crafted by Lelo himself, references places, people, and experiences from nearly 30 years dedicated to mixology. Popular choices include the day after tomorrow (R$40), with gin, cashew and vanilla infusion, sour mix, and Angostura; catch me if you can (R$40), with vodka, hibiscus and ginger infusion with salted caramel; and before the end of the world (R$40), with bourbon infused for 48 hours with coffee and cinnamon, coffee liqueur, and dry red vermouth. Prohibition-era classics also make an appearance, such as the Manhattan (R$42) and Bloody Mary (R$42). To accompany, there are snacks, sandwiches, and well-crafted bites like the bruschetta duo (R$45) — one with tomato confit, basil, and cheese; the other with Parma ham, cream cheese, arugula, and lemon zest. The smoked salmon sandwich with cream cheese, arugula, and avocado mayonnaise on ciabatta (R$63) is large enough to share. Botafogo: Rua álvaro Ramos 11 (96882-1073). Open Wed-Fri, 5 PM to midnight. Sat, 6 PM to 1 AM. BOTECO RAINHA Inspired by Portuguese and Spanish cuisines, Chef and restaurateur Pedro Artag?o's venture focuses on hearty dishes to share, in an informal atmosphere with décor reminiscent of Rio's old bars. Popular starters include the salt cod salad (R$51.50) and the seafood chowder (R$44.50), as well as the unique lobster croquette (R$16.50). For sharing, the generous and flavorful seafood skillet (R$264.50) and the octopus (R$238.50) and salt cod rice dishes (R$248.50) are hits, along with grilled cuts from the neighboring Galeto Rainha, such as the galeto (R$131.50) and premium picanha (R$297.50). Nearby on Rua Jo?o Lira, Boteco Princesa expands on its older sibling's repertoire with classic Rio nightlife dishes. Highlights include meats, broths — from feijoada, seafood, mocotó, or white bean, starting at R$27.50 — and dishes served in sizzling pots, like the ramiro octopus (R$99.50). To drink, both locations offer coconut, passion fruit, cashew, and ginger cocktails (R$19 each) and always-chilled Brahma draft beer (R$13), in addition to classic cocktails. With success in Leblon, both locations have opened branches in the Rio Design Barra. Leblon: Rua Dias Ferreira, 233/245/259. Open Sun-Wed, 11:30 AM to 11 PM. Thurs-Sat, 11:30 AM to 1 AM. Barra: Rio Design Barra Shopping (11) 5990-2359. Open Mon-Sat, noon to 11 PM. Sun and holidays, noon to 10 PM. BREWTECO The craft beer chain was born from a "pé-sujo" in Leblon in 2013 and quickly spread across the city: today, there are seven locations, from Lapa — where the brewery offers tours with tastings for R$50 — to a kiosk on Morro da Urca, ascending the Bondinho. All maintain the same spirit, but each has its unique identity, whether in the menu, music, or events throughout the year. In addition to taps with various labels, the brand has three proprietary drafts: the pilsenzinha (R$17), the pé sujo, in APA style (R$20), and the tra?ado, an IPA (R$24). In terms of food, highlights include the buraco quente, a sandwich on French bread filled with shredded beef rib, creamy mozzarella requeij?o (R$42). The "coxinhas saradas," without dough, are breaded in panko and served with curry aioli (R$38 for four units). Some locations, like Parque das Rosas in Barra, offer an executive lunch menu with options like shrimp bobó and cupim rice (R$32 to R$46). The rooftop branch at Botafogo Praia Shopping opens earlier with treats like the brew's grilled sandwich (R$28), a croque monsieur with royale ham, mozzarella cheese, and white sauce. Gávea: Pra?a Santos Dumont 106 (3594-3644). Open Sun-Thurs, 11:30 AM to 1 AM. Fri-Sat, 11:30 AM to 2 AM. Leblon: Rua Dias Ferreira 420-E (3217-8280). Open daily, 11:30 AM to 1 AM. Five more locations. CAJU At the Copacabana gastrobar, the menu emphasizes local ingredients — especially cashew. For drinks, the carolina, cinnamon, and cajuína (R$35) is a gin and tonic with cashew and the other ingredients in its name, but the fogo no parquinho (R$35), a slightly spicy blend of cacha?a with pomegranate syrup, orange, and biquinho compote with honey, is also popular; as is the beloved caju (R$25), a cacha?a shake with cashew puree and lime. Don't miss the bifanas (R$54), thin sirloin steaks marinated for 24 hours with half-cured cheese sauce and sweet potato chips. The vem de carne boa (R$47) features cupim cubes over fried cornmeal and cherry tomatoes, while the mineirinho (R$47) is roasted pork belly with toasted watercress vinaigrette. The establishment also offers a complete feijoada daily (R$130 for three people), and on weekends, there's samba. Copacabana: Pra?a Demétrio Ribeiro 97-C (3264-3713). Open Sun-Thurs, 11:30 AM to midnight. Fri-Sat, 11:30 AM to 1 AM. DEJA VU A new addition to the area around Pra?a do Russel, which is becoming a hotspot in Glória, the latest venture by Jonas Aisengart (Quartinho, Chanchada, Guadalupe, among others) is a modern wine bar with neon on the facade, an intimate setting with music and soft orange lighting in the small main room and basement, and sidewalk tables. The labels, many of minimal intervention, are served in a casual manner, whether in bottles starting at R$98 — like the Uruguayan orange Alma Surfer (R$178) — or glasses from the T?o Longe, T?o Perto project (R$15). Don't miss the French cider Kerné (R$98), a rare find here. In the kitchen, Chef and partner Matheus Zanchini (also of Pope) prepares inventive bites to accompany, like cured duck breast with spices (R$42) and pink tarama, a bottarga emulsion with pink beet cream and mujol roe (R$56). The cocktail menu includes options like the marina (R$32), with vanilla vodka, pear shrub, and coffee liqueur. Glória: Rua do Russel 344. Open Wed, 5 PM to 11 PM. Thurs-Fri, 5 PM to midnight. Sat, 3 PM to midnight. Sun, 3 PM to 11 PM. DEMI BOTECO Half French, half Brazilian, as the name suggests, the new venture by Frenchmen Stéphane Quinquis (formerly of Miam Miam) and Thierry Duc is a true French bar, with a simple, concise menu and inviting prices. To start, try the Cochon Rouge's country paté, served with sourdough bread, pickled cucumber, and mustard (R$29); the delicious fish fingers, very carioca, breaded in panko (R$27); and the eggplant sticks seasoned with paprika, served with sweet and sour miso sauce (R$23). For larger appetites, try the chicken fricassee (R$44), a kind of French stroganoff with thigh, Paris mushrooms, rice, and homemade potato sticks; or the couscous with ratatouille, merguez, thigh, and house harissa sauce (R$55). As expected, the house offers wines, by the bottle or in smaller versions, 300 ml pichets (R$33). There's also Conversa Fiada pilsner draft (R$8) and cacha?a-based drinks (R$23), such as the du bois, with blackberry, lemon, and cassis. For dessert, try the rice pudding with salted caramel (R$20), a childhood memory for Stéphane — and many cariocas. Catete: Rua Bento Lisboa 184. Open Tues-Sat, noon to 11:30 PM. Sun, noon to 5:30 PM. FATCHIA Inspired by Japanese audiophile spaces but with a tropical, laid-back soul, Fatchia opened last year with the aim of bringing together well-played music, signature drinks, and great pizza in one place. Conceived by Rodrigo Facchinetti — DJ, record collector, and music connoisseur — the venture is another partnership with the duo behind several Rio bars: mixologist Jonas Aisengart, who crafted some of the signature drinks, and entrepreneur Edu Araújo. The menu's star is the Detroit-style pizza — individual, with a light crust, tall edges, and creative touches — available in non-traditional flavors like pepperoni with spicy honey or carbonara (R$36 each). To drink, espresso martini (R$36), with a special touch of vanilla vodka, or gloria groove old fashioned, featuring whiskey infused with cocoa, coffee, and cherry, clarified using the milk punch technique (R$34). Evenings feature guest DJs who respect the sound ritual, maintaining a listening and celebratory atmosphere. The low lighting and décor details — with retro touches and functional design — create an elegant and informal refuge, where each night has its own personality. Glória: Rua Benjamin Constant 8. Open Wed, Thurs, Sun, 7 PM to midnight. Fri, Sat, 7 PM to 1 AM. GLORIOSO SUSHI Another venture from the duo Edu Araújo and Jonas Aisengart, the Japanese pub opened in January in bustling Botafogo offers an innovative mix under the command of Chef Guinju Tanaka, from the iconic Tanaka family: classic Japanese techniques with a casual Carioca bar vibe. A good example from the menu is the takoyaki (ball) filled with shrimp and Catupiry (R$38); the cigarrete roll, with pork shoulder and provolone rolled and breaded in panko, finished with tonkatsu, pineapple compote, and chives (R$32); or the cupim sashimi, with thin slices of the meat sautéed with moyashi (R$42). To drink, Jonas created highballs and signature cocktails like the totoro, with whiskey infused with pineapple and lemongrass plus citrus soda (R$34); or the liberdade, liberdade, with soju infused with melon and pennyroyal, finished with sparkling water (R$28). The house sake, created exclusively for Glorioso in partnership with a national factory, is made to pair with sushi, snacks, jazz, and the sidewalk. With its success, the establishment now opens for lunch on weekends, with monthly chef's specials. Botafogo: Rua Fernandes Guimar?es 53. Open Tues-Thurs, 6 PM to midnight. Fri, 6 PM to 2 AM. Sat, noon to 2 AM. Sun, noon to midnight. LIZ&CO. The only bar in Rio on the prestigious Top 500 Bars list in 2024, led by award-winning mixologist Tai Barbin, is a tribute to classic cocktails. The small and charming house in Leblon launched a new cocktail menu this year, featuring ingredients from around the world and a special selection of Brazilian products. Each drink represents a letter of the alphabet and an ingredient inspiring its creation, from A to Z. In this first edition, nine cocktails were presented in the form of tales. Highlights include the elderflower (R$45), a mix of elderflower liqueur, cacha?a, white rum, Aperol, pineapple, passion fruit, lemon, yuzu, fennel, green tea, and orange bitters, clarified with lactose-free milk and carbonated. Pair it with the burrata (R$69), with confit tomatoes, arugula, and parmesan crisp. Another house favorite is the cupua?u (R$42), made with rum, tequila, cupua?u, pineapple, lime, and cumaru. It pairs well with the beef carpaccio (R$51), with arugula and a grana padano cloud. The space recently gained a new mezzanine area: the Oak Room, with an intimate vibe, perfect for couples. On Sundays, there's jazz starting at 5 PM. Leblon: Rua Dias Ferreira, 679-A (98224-3611). Open Tues-Sat, 6 PM to 1 AM. Sun, 5 PM to midnight. MARCHEZINHO The half-French, half-Brazilian bistro is curated by French partner and architect Sacha Mollaret, focusing on local consumption and farm-to-table concepts, and is decorated with objects and furniture he collected on his travels across Brazil. In addition to an executive lunch on weekdays, the fixed menu offers options for snacks, lunch, or dinner. Starters include steak tartare (R$54) and roasted pupunha heart of palm with basil pesto and nuts (R$34), vegan and aromatic. There are also fresh pasta dishes, such as pappardelle with bourguignon (R$64), served with beef cooked in wine sauce with vegetables and mushrooms; and ravioli du dauphiné (R$62), filled with artisanal cheeses and served with a creamy sage and white wine sauce. On the cocktail menu, two new creations take the spotlight: the melone (R$32), a milk punch with rum, melon, homemade limoncello, and passion fruit; and the neto (R$30), made with jabuticaba vermouth, homemade orange liqueur, blackberry syrup, and cacha?a aged in balsam. The wine selection deserves a chapter of its own, featuring over 30 natural, organic, and biodynamic labels — all exclusively Brazilian. Guests can choose from the house wines, created in partnership with BellaQuinta winery (R$105 per bottle or R$28 per glass), or the special glasses of the day (R$42). In July, Sacha also opened a rotisserie in Laranjeiras, inspired by those in the South of France, called Nizza. Botafogo: Rua Voluntários da Pátria, 46 (96612-0561). Mon–Thu, 11:30 a.m. to midnight. Fri and Sat, 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. The translation of this text into english was carried out by Project Irineu, O GLOBO's initiative to develop artificial intelligence tools.
